Christmas is a party rich in history and tradition. People all over the world may observe this holiday in many ways yet one thing is evident, everyone is having the ideal times of their life during Christmas. Most people spend it with their friends and family, enjoying each other’s companionship, reminiscing warm memories, and creating new ones.
They say that objects, good or bad, go in threes. Christmas has lots of special traditions yet the three that are prominent are Christmas trees, fruit cakes and Christmas cards.
Each family has its own secret formula in preparing fruit cakes that is closely guarded and handed down from one generation to another. Around the world, fruit cakes have a lot of varieties as the difference in the ingredients added become clear. In the United Kingdom, for one, fruit cakes are moist in texture and richer in flavor than their American equivalent. Fruit cakes are also a part of the British Christmas custom, usually coated with marzipan and royal icing. They’re then garnished with holly leaves, real or artificial berries, and other decorations commemorating Christmas.
Well, what is Christmas without the tree full of bright lights and ornaments? It is also a special Christmas tradition wherein the dads and their young lads go out and pick the tree and the whole household adorns it, with the special privilege granted to the youngest member of the household to put the star at the top of the tree. Traditionally, the tree is installed and bedecked on Christmas Eve, December 24th and will be removed the day after twelfth night, January 6th. Evergreens and coniferous trees are the widely used trees and the firs, spruces and pines being the three most known species.
On the other hand, gifts and personalized Christmas cards are part of our lives. Hence, Christmas wouldn’t be perfect without receiving and giving away a Christmas souvenir in one form or another. People spend most of their time thinking of what to give their loved ones on this special celebration. It is also evident to everyone that Christmas is the busiest shopping time of the year where people are more ready to splurge in the spirit of giving and of Christmas. Business Christmas cards are given out by huge corporations to let their clients know how much the establishment is grateful for their loyalty and hope for a healthier relationship in the future.
These are just three of the Christmas traditions that, whether we enjoy it or not, we all yearn for every year. After the Christmas season, after clearing out the clutter in the kitchen, after removing the tree, we are so eager for the next Christmas holiday.
