Many men recognize the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier for his jobs in architecture, but anyone with a plain knowledge in 20th century furniture design can tell you is that he also created some of modern history’s most well-known furnishings. an example of such furniture work is the LC2 Le Corbusier Sofa. Part of the important LC2 compilation which includes the LC2 Ottoman and LC2 Armchair, the LC2 Sofa is a two to three-person capacity sofa comprised of an outer steel frame and black leather cushions. Le Corbusier created the sofa with the assistance of Charlotte Perriand in 1928, and was one of his first forays into furniture designs.

With this thin, minimalist image and absence of ornamental components, the LC2 Le Corbusier Sofa is a common example of the modern style adopted by Le Corbusier. The chair also destroyed the ruling of common chair design by having the frame on the outside rather than inside. Le Corbusier criticized the typical sofa designs of that period that involved covering the frame under layers of padding, and wanted the LC2 sofa to exhibit the grace and effort put into the creation of the frame.

In order to strengthen the whole structure, the frame of the LC2 Le Corbusier Sofa is finished from flat and tubular pieces of high quality steel welded together. The frame is also painted with a coat of protective chrome plating, although this was only updated on in sofas produced] late in the 1950s. The LC2 also had an additional support as well as an interior spring mechanism, although the latter was stopped in later production runs. The cushions, meanwhile are classy black leather.

The LC2 Le Corbusier Sofa first experienced business in the 1930s under the Thonet and Embru furniture companies until 1959, where it was re-introduced with little upgrades. nowadays the sofa and the set are made by Cassina S.p.A of Milan, Italy.
